Subjects Covered:

6th Grade Math – Abeka Curriculum
Focuses on strengthening arithmetic skills, including operations with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, measurement, geometry, and problem-solving strategies. -
7th Grade Math – BJU Press: Fundamentals of Math
Reinforces basic math concepts while introducing foundational pre-algebra topics such as integers, ratios, proportions, and basic geometry. -
8th Grade Math – BJU Press: Pre-Algebra
Prepares students for algebra by focusing on equations, inequalities, integers, rational numbers, geometry, and graphing.
1. Class Activities & Assessments

Students will engage in daily lessons, guided practice, and classwork using the respective curriculum.

Students will be assessed every 2-3 lessons with a quiz, tests will be given at the end of each chapter.

Homework will differ by class, 6th grade will have weekly speed drills, 7th & 8th grade will receive their homework assignments daily.
2. Class Materials
Students are expected to come to class with the following:

Notebooks

TI-30XIIS calculator (7th & 8th grade only)
3. Classroom Rules:
a) Phones must be turned in to Mrs. Bates between 7:30–8:00 a.m. during homeroom.
b) Be on time and ready to begin when the bell rings.
c) No food is allowed in the classroom; water bottles are permitted.
d) Show respect to both your classmates and the teacher.
e) When using the restroom, students must place the bathroom pass on their desk.
f) A teacher's pass is required to visit the office.
g) Turn in all homework/classwork to the designated bin; late work loses points.
h) If absent or checked out, it is the student’s responsibility to request and complete makeup work.
i) Missed quizzes or tests require a valid written excuse; students have 3 days to make them up.
j) Dress code: Students are to follow school dress code policy.
4. Textbooks

6th Grade: Students will be issued individual textbooks they may take home.

7th & 8th Grade: Books will be used in class only and must be returned to their designated place before leaving class each day.
5. Grading and Evaluation
-
Tests will equate 40% of total grade weight with the lowest grade dropped.

Quizzes will equate 20% of total grade weight with lowest grade dropped.

Classwork will equate 20% of total grade weight with lowest grade dropped.

Homework will equate 10% of total grade weight.

Daily Grade will equate 10% of total grade weight. (This is earned by class participation, coming to class prepared with all materials and assignments completed and turned in on time.)
6. Late Work/ Extra Credit
-
Work is due when it is due. If work is turned in late, there will automatically be points deducted from the grade assigned for being late, starting with 10%. If there was sickness or other issues, there must be a doctor’s excuse or note from parent with explanation. Loss of points will then be determined on a case-by-case basis. The instructor should not have to constantly remind you of these rules.

Extra credit opportunities are offered to all students on the same basis. For 6th, 7th and 8th grade, teacher will give students opportunities at the end of the nine weeks to turn in extra credit assignments.

I will not take phone calls during school hours. You may leave a message for me in the office with a number, and I will return your call during my prep time or after 3:00 PM.

I will not take or return calls after 7:00PM as I have a family as well. Thank you for understanding and being cooperative!
